The flecks of indigo in the speckled Kokon Bleu yarn remind me of the cornflower petals found in some teas, like the Gracia blend I enjoyed in Barcelona years ago. The heaviness of the Aran weight is extra warm and cozy, like a good cup of tea on a cold, grey afternoon.

I designed and knit Afternoon Tea while sipping many cups of tea, on many winter days, often in front of the fire. I hope knitting one keeps you warm and cozy too. Enjoy.

Penumbra is a crescent shaped shawlette. Inspired by the rings of shadows and light surrounding the moon during an eclipse, Penumbra features rippling bands of eyelet-punctuated garter stitch, finished off with a border alternating between stocking stitch and seed stitch.

BUY IT ON RAVELRY

Designed to use less than 400 yards of fingering weight yarn, you can knit Penumbra from a single 100 gram skein of sock yarn. Selecting a single-ply merino yarn creates a lightweight fabric full of loft, as shown in the grey sample. For a more sumputous, drapey fabric I recommend a merino-silk blend, as show in the gold sample.

The small size is just right to wrap around your neck with a heavy sweater or light jacket on a chilly day.

The Paris Walk Cowl features three lace motifs inspired by an early May walkabout in Paris. The design prototype travelled with me to drink tea at L’Oisive Thé, have lunch at the Louvre, visit the Luxembourg Gardens, and enjoy the beauty of the city in spring.

The design of the first motif is inspired by the glass and steel pyramids at the Louvre Museum.

The cowl builds from the pyramid base with a field of flowers evocative of the blooms in the parks and the rose windows in the many cathedrals sprinkled about the city. A stylization of the arched rose windows seen in both Notre Dame and Sacre Coeur caps off the cowl.

Both edges feature a picot bind off; a provisional cast is used to achieve this.

So grab a luscious skein of fingering weight yarn and knit up a lacey little something for you or a loved one.

The Americana Throw has thirteen stripes and a field of blue. Knit in garter stitch at a loose gauge, it’s sized just right for a child to snuggle with or an adult to cover their lap or toss over chilled shoulders.

The throw is knit in one piece; the stripes are knit first and then the blue field is picked up and knit.

The Americana Throw was inspired by my daughter’s wonder at the Star Spangled Banner exhibit at the Smithsonian.

Pulsar is a semi-circular garter stitch shawl knit in two colors.

The Pulsar shawl, part of the Astronomy collection, is inspired by the pulsar star cosmic phenomenon. The alternating bands of color are reminiscent of the pulsed emissions of the namesake neutron star.

Swift Bliss Sock in colors Uptown Graffiti (the deep grey speckle) and Downtown (the white speckle) echo the staticky monochromatic nature of a pulsar. The flecks of gold and red in the yarns add warmth and character to the gritty black and white palette.

The Cross Rails hat is inspired by days spent at the horse barn, watching horses and riders sail over jumps. Knit in the round from DK yarn, Cross Rails features textured knit-purl combo motifs, inspired by cross rail jumps.

Saturday at Bartram’s is a top down triangular shawl inspired by a family wedding at Bartram’s Garden.. There is a simple eyelet pattern for the main body, a lace border section, and a knitted-on bottom edging.

Bartram’s Garden is a historic botanical garden in Philadelphia. My sister was married there on a sunny Saturday afternoon filled with family and friends, adorned in the natural beauty of lush greenery, field blooms, and butterflies.

Saturday at Bartram’s was designed in her honor. Nature’s Luxury Wedding Bells colorway in pinks, umbers, and delicate grey was a perfect fit. The shawl has a simple body to highlight the beauty of the main color, accented with a band of heart inspired lace in the grey tone found in the speckled Wedding Bells. Bound off in a knitted-on edge reminiscent of butterfly wings. All designed to celebrate love and joy; simplicity and complexity; all the wonders of the garden and of a lasting marriage. I hope you enjoy the pattern.

Finished dimensions, after blocking: 62 inch wingspan and 30 inch central spine.

Please note that Nature’s Luxury Parisienne comes in hanks of 503 yards; 500 yards of the main color were used for the sample. Double check skein yardage when selecting your yarns; the standard 400-420yd fingering weight skein will not be enough yarn for either color.

Grab a skein of cozy DK yarn to knit up a refreshing Sorbet Slouch. The classic pattern styling will showcase a speckled hand dyed or a tonal semi-solid equally well.

The shawl is inspired by the idea of an ancient goddess in moonlight. The name, Vanth, is an Etruscan deity who helps souls transition to the afterlife. The yarn for this shawl was purchased at VKLive NYC just weeks before the COVID19 lockdowns began in the US. The pattern was designed and knit in the dark grey days of those first weeks of the pandemic.

The journey from darkness to light was long, and thousands did not make it. In many ways this shawl is my personal homage to the time of darkness, isolation, and uncertainty.
